Coltrane A Love Supreme

Verve Records

>Project Details

A rare recording of John Coltrane playing A Love Supreme live at the Seattle Penthouse in 1964.

The archive shot used on the cover has a subtle nod to the original LP. Typography used throughout references the classic Impulse sleeves of the mid 60s.

With no footage of the actual event, Julian created the video for Psalm using limited footage of Coltrane combined with stock imagery. He tapped into the look of abstract underground film-making of the period. And, like the abstract painting of the time, it has an affinity with the spiritual aspects of jazz.

Additional assets were created for online and social.
