For the title sequence, we wanted to evoke the Faber and Faber book covers of the time, but also to include abstract imagery evocative of science, atoms and religious motifs. It also has an overall heat haze, sun blind shimmer effect to it.

The opening collage needed to reflect the war / crisis background to the story of the boys, but without showing typical war imagery. We looked to mid 20th Century Modernism, the record covers of modern classical composers like Penderecki, Britton… also the ruins and nature imagery of artists like Graham Sutherland and John Piper.
